Cool SUV...but sounds like someone who might be a bit difficult to work with just given how forceful they seem to be about displaying their political opinions, if this is any form of long term or high interaction gig.

For the record I work with many people I 100% know are Trump supporters - but they keep their opinions to themselves, and I do the same (in fact pretty sure there’s some company rule about not displaying any form of political affiliation even on vehicles in the parking lot), and we work together just fine. I probably wouldn’t be BBQing with them on the weekend in my free time, but a company has got to operate and I’ve got to pay the bills - and keeping this stuff out of work is a good way to keep doing that.

I think a lot of these people have never had a national leader that resonates so much with their own values (values that I vehemently disagree with and that honestly tarnish America’s image in the world ). A lot of these people have trouble controlling their enthusiasm and have urges to display their fandom in public, not unlike the rest of us with “normal” hobbies and interests.

the issue perhaps is thinking that politics is a hobbie. Worse even; a sport.

Some of the most politically inept people I know are the people that root the most for particular politicians. while I do root for particular politicians, I think it’s more important to think about the issues you care about, and placing them in context.

Definitely. I’m an issue and policy voter, not a person or party voter.

That’s the same thing with sports fandom. Some people take their home teams so seriously that their social media feeds have nothing else and they will fight to the death for a team whose members probably aren’t even from the local area .

IMO not necessarily. Company property is private property, and free speech does not mean you are guaranteed a job.

It’s in a company’s business interests to keep its employees from fighting each other, and if a recurring topic is causing fights, then that’s game for the ban hammer.

Private property, certainly no 1st amendment issue or anything of the sort. But yes - I guess technically it’s anti-free speech. I go back and forth about it but at the end of the day helps keep things from spiraling out of control I guess.

I’m a believer in humanity and decency before getting to policy positions so that in itself disqualifies people like Trump in my book. I’m not shy to admit I’m not a conservative - but there are conservative leaders out there I’d happily live with (think Hogan, maybe DeWine, even Jeff Flake perhaps). I’d be furious about their positions but at least be confident that they’re truly doing what they believe to be is in the country’s best interest (at least I’m talking mostly about economic/foreign policy type issues...some others like gay rights, race based discrimination , etc. get back to my beliefs about decency and there are many out there who need to step out of the stone age) . And I’ll happily admit there’s more than one route to most destinations. But this guy has zero conviction. He’ll get on the bandwagon for whatever he (often inaccurately) believes to be in his best political interest. It’s just so chaotic and disjointed. Also super alarming how he uses pitting the population against each other as a political tool - we can’t go on like this for much longer.

In family and coworkers, I know of several individuals who fit this to a T. They know jack about history or politics, but th ei r social media is a shrine to someone who says they are going to fix every ill. That 4 of the 6 barely graduated high school and the other two in non technical artistic fields, plays into it.
